Default 4x4 HELP

I have a 97' F-150 with the 4.6 v8 4x4. today i started my truck and it automatically kicked into 4x4 high. never touched the dial on the dash. figured i can still get to class so went on. a half hour later i started the truck back up (dial still in 2high) and the truck made a loud "clunk" and the 4x4 low light comes on and it is now stuck in 4low wont come out. tried removing a battery cabel to reset everything and nothing. so curently i have a truck stuck in 4low to get around in the city on dry roads.

Anything would be great.

Sounds like you GEM [general electric module] is the problem. It controls the commands to the transfer case motor when the switch is activated.
