2017 Backup Camera Issue
2017 F150 Lariat,
Backup camera started showing a distorted image (kind of like watching late night scrambled television from the 90's) and eventually it just went to a blue screen. The backup sensors, etc still all work. I have cleaned all of the connections, they look fine. When I test for voltage on the actual camera connection I'm getting apx 5 Volts when testing from the white/brown wire to ground with the camera connected. With the camera disconnected from the harness I'm getting 10.8 Volts on those wires while the battery voltage is 11.9. Before I start throwing money at this thing -- where do I start? Could this be a camera issue? Is there anything else I can check?

Ryan,
It is most likely the camera. My 2020 did the same intermittently for 7months till the recall replaced it. New cam never did it again. You did remove the tailgate access panel and re-seat the connectors in there, yes? If you use your tailgate a lot, the tailgate-to-truck harness could have on open wire due to flexing. Disc. tailgate-to-truck harness and check with ohm-meter while a buddy moves the tailgate up and down. Watch for a loss of continuity on any wires. APIM could be faulty connection, but Junkyard is your friend for cam or harness. Get a replacement junkyard cam anyway, 'cuz yours is doomed to completely fail as mine did. Use Silicone spray inside all connectors involved/disturbed. Do not use di-electric grease, as it is an insulator.

I tried a new camera, that wasn't the problem. I tried a brand new OEM wire harness, that wasn't the problem. Im thinking perhaps it's the 2nd wire harness (the one past the first harness) but I really have no clue at this point, it's like chasing a dragon. The first harness for sure had a corroded ground wire, which is why I'm thinking maybe the second harness might as well... Any help would be appreciated. Very very frustrated.

Follow up. After all I said above... I finally was able to find the problem. I wigged the signal wires where they go into the 3rd connector (up above the spare tire) in and it fixed the issue. I'll likely end up removing the connector and permanently fixing the issue.
