2013 Starter Issues
I have a 2013 STX 5.0 and sometimes when I go to start it I hear a whining sound and then the truck tries to start, like the starter isn’t engaging, then it does. To me it sounds like a starter but I’m not sore if there is an underlying issue. Has anyone else had this issue or heard of it?

100% exact same problem here. 2013 4X4 Lariat 5.0. Mine has gotten worse. Now it wont 'catch' sometimes and wont start at all unless I try several times. It sounds like the starter motor is running but the teeth are not engaging the fly wheel when it happens. My mechanic friend said I need a new starter. Bought it. Now ready to install and have hit the dreaded 3rd bolt removal. On here looking for tips/tricks. Let you know how it goes and if it fixes the issue. Just be careful because mine started doing it weeks ago and now has definitely gotten worse. ...don't want to get stranded. The back bolt on the starter is almost impossible to get to on this thing.

Starter drive not engaging the flex plate, need to rebuild or replace the starter.

Replacing Solenoid
I found a solenoid from a starter repair shop where I live and I plan on replacing it tomorrow. I saw a video of a guy on YouTube that replaced one with some good tips, check out this video.
