Default 2012 Rear Wheel Stud Replacement.

Posted this in the Late Model F150 forum, but got no responses so I thought maybe I should have posted here first.

My father in law's "mechanic" managed to shear off about 2/3rds of one of his rear lug nuts. We tried several different extractors but there isn't much left for anything to bite on and because the lug nuts are recessed it makes it difficult.

I'm thinking of drilling out the wheel stud but have heard that I might have to pull the rear axle to replace the stud because of clearance issues. Has anyone done a rear stud replacement on this generation of F150s and can it be done without taking apart the rear axle?

Maybe I could drill some holes in the remainder of the nut and break it off with a cold chisel.

Please help!
