I have a 5.0 and took it to the dealer with a noise complaint that was coming from under the truck. Long story short they told me that my CAI was throwing the timing off and causing a pinging in the cylanders. I know many with CAI and F-150's Please HELP!!!----oh with my stock intake on no pinging can be heard.

 

Did you get a tuner with the cai?

 

No, just got AFE stage 2 intake

 

I had the same issue with my 04 after installing a Roushe CAI. Had to get a tuner in order to straightin it out. I got a sct livewire 9600.

 

Was advised by truck performance shop to try E85 fuel because of the higher detonation. I will tell what, not only did it fix my problem but the 5.0 with E85 and a CAI I have so much more hp. That ethanol really gives more under the pwdal and I only lost 1 or 2 mpg.

 

I have a 2011 F-150 5.0L and am experiencing that same issue. I installed a Flowmaster exhaust and a K&N air filter. I started noticing the engine ping during restart, after I have driven it. I replaced the K&N CAI with the stock filter and the ping is still there during restart. I have owned Programmers in the past and didn't really notice a difference in HP. How did you set up your engine? What program setting did you select? Thanks.
