Default 2009 screw

Guys, I need some brake advise. I purchased on line and received 4 each rotors from Performance Brake ( premium black zinc coated, slotted only ). Also purchased and received Greenstuff pads from EBC Rotors on line. ( 7000 series pads(front) 6000 series(rear) with the break in coating on the face of the pads. ) My question is will the zinc coating on the rotors have a chemical reaction with the break in coating on the pads and possibly destroy both pads and rotors?? I am getting mixed answers from the manufacturer on both. Both say yes, However the rotors require a break in regimen unlike anything I have ever heard of. (Example) drive vehicle to 45mph, slow to 5mph, drive to 45mph and back down again to 5mph and so on. 10 to 20 times. Let vehicle sit til rotors are cool to touch and repeat as needed in the event of brake pad sqeel. I have done 200 plus brake jobs in my lifetime and have never heard of this type of break in procedure. I am not dissing the break in process, Both web sites recommended the rotors and pads as I tow/haul 9 months a year. Anyone out there use the greenstuff? They are top of line for my application and are not cheap. Thanks to all of you fellow Ford owners.

wow, it sounds like you've purchased some high tech rotors and pads. I have used Bendix rotors on a fleet of 100 f-150s and F-250's and never heard of breaking in a rotor, pads yes, rotors no. If you doubt the pads are compatible I would return them and get what the rotor manufacture supplies so there's no chance of warranty issues. Most high end pads are lifetime anyway. My preference for brakes are ceramic pads also Bendix.

Hey Marc D, A friend of mine happens to be employed by Underwriters Laboratory in Northbrook Illinois. I actually called and had him come by to look at what I have here. He and his crew just spent 9 months testing brake components from pads and rotors to calipers, brake lines ect... They tested the greenstuff pads extensively and found no reasonable cons regarding the pads. As for the rotors. Zinc coating on any rotor is removed after aprox 10 rotations of wheel travel while stopping. Break in of pads is all I need to concentrate on. He laughed at the rotor break in procedure. By the way you have a beautiful 70 Ford truck. I always loved the F series. Durable and straight forward. 2 years ago I sold a 76 Highboy to make room for a dually for towing purposes. I hall RV's part time and we own a 40 foot camper that gets hauled out in the spring, left for the season, and hauled back in the late fall. I miss the highboy as it was equipped with all late model engine / trans and drivetrain. I Have enclosed a pic of my dually. Bought at a Florida auction for 26,000. Owner written disclosure at time of pick up stated that since new the check engine light has been on. The dealer could not find a problem with the vehicle and the seller lived with the light. I played with it for a weekend and I replaced the upper fuel line temp sensor. Reset the computer per manual and the light has not been on since. Vehicle had 68,000 miles at time of purchase. I flew down with a friend and we drove her home. My brother in law gave the truck a once over prior to bidding. It needed tire but the brakes are new.
