Default 2009 F150 Clunk

hello everyone. I have a 2009 f150 with the 5.4 motor. It has 145K miles on it. The very last second before the vehicle comes to a complete stop when breaking, there is a clunk noise coming from what I guess it the drive line area. I’m not very mechanically smart. I’ve read the the slip yoke needs to be greased. I’ve done this and the problem didn’t get fixed. Mechanics said UV joints are in good shape. I’ve had it to 3 mechanics and none of them know what it is. It does not do it all the time. Maybe about 75% of the time. Mechanic wants my truck for 5 days to take it apart and look around and I can’t afford that. Was just curious if anyone else had any suggestions. Thank you

That's a perfect description of slip yoke clunk, also known as slip-bump. The long term fix is a new yoke. In lieu of that, you might try a product called Neo Lube. The underlying problem is the plating is worn off the splines and the slip yoke no longer slides smoothly on the splines of the output shaft. It's a problem common to trucks (due to their relatively steep driveshaft angles) and not brand specific.

Thanks for the help. One more question. I’ve called the local parts stores and I’ve been told you cannot just buy a slip yoke, that you must purchase the whole drive shaft. Is that true?

It's available from Ford. At least it was about 3 years ago when I did the 05.
