Default 2008 4wd Lariat Grinding During Acceleration

Good Morning All,

After I had my transmission rebuilt, both myself and the Tranny guy noticed a pretty rough grinding (think rocks in a blender) noise that ONLY occurs during acceleration. It does not occur when giving it just enough gas to maintain speed, nor during cruise, nor in reverse. The tranny guy even redropped the tranny and gave it a full triple check and declared it not the cause. I was thinking IWE related but id figure that grinding should occur the entire time the wheels are spinnin and not solely under acceleration conditions. Anyone have any ideas i can start checking on?

IWEs are a possibility. Does the grinding stop when you throw it in 4H? If it does, pretty good odds it's the IWEs.
If it is the IWEs, what is happening when accelerating, you loose engine vacuum. Normally, the check valve will close and prevent vacuum loss.
First thing is to verify it is the IWEs grinding.

John summed that up really well. In 4wd your truck is fine but the iwes are not fully releasing your hubs

Could be a hub bearing assembly.
