You didn't say what lead you to replace the solenoid, but here is a quick test of your starting system:
Turn the headlights on and try to start the car. If the headlights do not dim, you most likely have a problem with the ignition switch, fused link, the solenoid or the starter.
If the lights start out dim, you probably have a problem with the battery or the battery cables.
If the lights start out bright, and dim a lot, but the starter doesn't turn, you may have a seized starter.
If you have a voltmeter, you can read from the starter to ground, should be above 9V when you try to start it. If you have over 9V at the starter but it does not turn, your starter is probably open and needs replacement. It's a good idea (inho) to take it out and run it, or take it to an autoparts store for a test before replacing it... Not all bench tests at autoparts stores find all faults with starters.
