Default 2000 Fuel Pump or CPS

So my 2000 F150 5.4 has about 160k on the odometer and sits in the garage a lot as my second vehicle. Before I parked it for about 1 1/2 - 2 months it was running fine, when I went to start it after sitting that long it just cranks but doesn't start. I have checked the inertia switch, fuel pump fuse and relay and all are OK. The pump primes intermittently when I turn the switch ON, sometimes I hear it prime and sometimes not. I shot some starting fluid into the TB and it started then cut off. After doing this a few times it started and stayed running. That was over the weekend, now it usually starts fine except when I don't hear the pump prime first so I am not sure if the fuel pump maybe has a bad spot on it or maybe the crankshaft position sensor is having issues. Will the CPS prevent the pump from priming if it is bad?

Press the accelerator part of the way down. If it starts, replace the IAC valve.

Would that keep the fuel pump from priming?

No. I would say your fuel pump is starting to go bad.

That's what I'm thinking also, just trying to make sure it couldn't be something else before I pull the bed off and change the fuel pump.
