Default 2000 5.4 AC Compressor replacement

Hi! I have recently decided to try and replace my own AC compressor even after reading on here how difficult it is. After realizing that I cannot buy freon from the auto shop I'm kind of at a standstill. I realize that I will not be able to recharge it without going to a shop.

My question is, is it possible to install the compressor and still use my truck for a week, either with the whole compressor unplugged or by making sure I don't use the defrost or AC in the truck.

Thanks for your input!

You should be able to get pag oil and R 134a at any parts store. I just replaced my compressor and recharged it.

No need to unplug it. The low pressure shutoff switch won't let the compressor turn on. Mine hasn't been charged for well over a year.
