1991 4.9 e4od slipping
Good afternoon,
I am new here so I apologize if this question has already been asked/answered.
I bought my f150 a couple months ago and just recently got it running. It had sat for about 5 years prior to my ownership so I may have a time bomb.
My concern is this:
I changed the transmission fluid and filter and took the truck on a drive and noticed that it has some slipping/engaging issues. When starting from a stop it takes about a second for the transmission to engage when you step on the gas, it is slipping when shifting absolutely terribly, and it makes a metal on metal noise right underneath my feet occasionally, especially when under load. I have been looking at all the basic items, transmission fluid level, electrical connections, and the manual lever position sensor. I find it interesting that if I start the truck and then unplug the MLPS the transmission instantly starts working perfectly. Engages the instant you put it in drive, no slippage on shifts and they are very firm. I tried replacing the MLPS with a duralast one and it went back to slipping. I am guessing it is something with pressure control. Should I just do a pressure increase mod and hope that works? I'm new to the f-150/e4od scene so I'm needing every bit of help I can get.
Thanks so much!!

Edit: Cab shudders at low speed during take-off and stopping.
Have you inspected the cab mounts recently? I highly recommend black Energy poly. Read this page:

Thanks for the idea but the cab is only shuddering around ~5mph and then smooths out as the vehicle accelerates. I’m confident in the cab mounts but I will check them just to be sure. Just was wondering what on earth a pressure increase mod is/ how it would be done. Mainly I am just hoping that the original poster would respond to this and let me know how they may have fixed the issue.
I would NOT tamper with the transmission. It worked right as-built for decades. If you make it work differently, you'll probably just ruin it. If it's not working right, it's time for a rebuild - not a hack. After checking the cab mounts, u-joints, suspension bushings, ENGINE MOUNTS, and every other possible cause, take the truck to a trans specialist for diagnosis.
