Question 10R80 Problems

2018 F150 Lariat with 3.5 Eco and 10R80. Harsh/delayed shift issues are getting worse. 1st to 3rd mechanical clunk and shift, with delays 6th to 7th. Sometimes 1st wouldn't engage when starting from a stop. Weird thing is that the problem seems to subside once the trans temp/pressure is at its operating spot. However, once the truck sits for a while, the problem comes back until it gets back to its operating spot. Started looking around and searched the internet and found that this is a known problem. I am aware of the TSB's on this issue. Brought it back to the dealership a couple weeks ago and they did an adaptive table reset. They told me it would be quirky for about 100 miles and then would be fine. Well.....they were wrong. The problem has worsened and now the 1st to 3rd slam is more pronounced and the shift delays happened in almost every gear. As I go through the gear box into the upper gears, sometimes now it will delay, the gear indicator light will move to 1st and then it will go back to whatever gear it was going to shift into and slam into gear. But again, the problem seems to improve greatly at operating temperature. Sunday night, the same behavior occurred as it does every time I first get in the truck, but this time I finally threw a code. The wrench icon appeared and I continued home. However, now the truck had a very harsh engagement from Park to Drive. This occurred about 5 times until I got home. I checked the code with my OBD2 and got a P076F-00 code which has something to do with 7th gear ratio. I didn't clear the code. The next morning, when I got in the truck, the wrench icon was gone and so was the harsh P to D engagement, however the normal shifting issues still persisted. The truck is going to to the dealer tomorrow. My questions are these. I am assuming the valve body rebuild is the next step, and I hope the code that generated doesn't lead them to some other fix that won't solve the issue. I have to assume that these harsh shifts and engagements are causing damage to the clutches etc. What is causing this issue, which clearly isn't a software problem, but a mechanical one, and why does it seem to greatly improve at temperature only to return when it cools off? As for the powertrain warranty, I am covered, but now that i have an acknowledged problem with it, does Ford always have to cover the problem or does it stop once I'm out of the coverage time/mileage frame? The main reason I'm concerned is that I just made my last lease payment and was set to buy out the lease because the price is right and the truck is otherwise great. Thanks in advance.

It all depends, if you have a good relationship with your dealer they could push ford to cover it. But outside of warranty they don't have to cover it

Default Update

Well apparently the dealer missed the “pinhole” in the transmission cooler which leaked coolant into and contaminated the transmission 2 weeks ago when it was in for service. Instead they reset the adaptive learning tables, performed the door latch recall and sent me in my way.
Now I sit and wait for Ford to approve a new transmission.
