New guy with some questions.
Hi All,
Looking into picking up an f150 with aspersions of doing some cosmetic and mechanical alterations to it and I have a few questions.
I really like the look of a f150 4x4 with 30" tired, a single cab and a 5 foot bed. I know ford does not make a truck with a single cab and a 5 foot bed so my first question.
Would it make more sense to shorten a quad cab frame down and put a single cab body on it, or shorten a single cab frame and put a 5 foot bed on it?
With the 15+ models having aluminum frames, would that impact the ability to shorten it?
How much work is involved in swapping body panels between a 15-18 model year and the 09-14 trucks?
How about cross generation swap of interior stuff like the steering wheel?

I'm not much of a fabricator so I have little input on this other than to say the frame on the F150s is not aluminum- the body is. Frame is high strength steel.

Brutally honest here.
If I knew more about the subject than just what I wanted I wouldn't be looking for advice before purchasing a vehicle. I'm not foolish enough to think I should do this on my own. I'm currently looking for a local shop with experience with this kind of work. But suggesting that, becouse I don't know enough about something I should just give up, stop asking questions and not bother to learn is just about the most idiotic thing any one can suggest.

Trying to figure it out!
I was not suggesting you didn't learn but it came across to me as you were going to attempt this but had no understanding of it. But if you take someone being honest and not blowing smoke up your butt to make you happy then so be it. And I wasn't even brutal even though I said I put that in the reply.
Good luck with your project and I hope you find your answers.

A regular cab / short bed (RCSB) is a damn good looking setup. In my opinion, a regular cab with a 5.5 bed might look awkward. You should look through the Members builds section. There are some really nice looking RCSB trucks there that members have put together.
What you are asking about can most likely be done by a very experienced shop. Chopping the frame and going with the shorter bed would be the easiest ( not really easy at all ) way to go but will be an expensive alteration.
I must admit, if you do have this done, I’d love to see the finished product!

Not to take away from your original inquiry, but would you not be happy with having a regular cab 6.5" box? I mean, they can look awesome if done up properly. Look at SPOAT's:
And here's his build thread:
