Default Head unit upgrade

I toyed with the idea of upgrading for a couple years of owning my truck. I definitely wanted a touchscreen head unit, but they get really expensive for the functionality I wanted. I ended up buying a used Microsoft Surface and incorporated a docking station to float the Surface allowing an ability to maintain a consistent charge. There was one fella on YouTube that had a permanent install similar to what I was doing, but I didn't like the fact I couldn't remove the device without taking the whole bezel off.

let me know what you think.

I removed the factory bezel and the factory system still played. I rotated the stock amp/cd unit upwards 90 degreesto add a bit more room.

Bought the aftermarket bezel and opened up the docking station to add mounting support. I used pan head screws to ensure the movement of the docking station was fluid and didnt catch.

Next i mounted the circuit board for the dock to the back side.

i added a 4 port usb 3.0 hub in the glove box along with a Xbox 360 usb dongle for gameplay. (no there isnt a 360 in here also). I have all my emulators and roms loaded onto the Surface.

Nice! I imagine you could run into legal issues in certain states since this technically is a laptop computer you're using while driving. Still a very cool upgrade!

Thats an awesome install! The last thing I would worry about is legal issues. Enjoy the awesome work you've done!
