Custom interior accent lighting
Idea: i would like my accent interior lighting to have 2 power options
1. Basic manual on off switch
And
2. I would like them to turn on and off automatically depending on the time of day. Just like the automatic headlights.
Should i splice into the headlight control? And if so how would i go about it.
Or maybe getting a separate day night switch all together.
This is on a 2014 F150 3.5L XLT

Look for an SPDT switch with a third "off" position (On-Off-On, or On-On-Off) that looks right to you where you plan to install it. It must be rated for at least as much current (Amperes) as the total of what it controls (the new lights). Wire one side to the parking or (dimmed) dash lights circuit (depending on what kind of lights you use, and how you want them to work); the other side to a key-switched source that can handle the ADDITION of the current your new lights draw; and the output (usually the center terminal) to the new lights. All your new wires must be large enough to handle the new lights' total current. Never connect a new wire to a SMALLER factory wire. For more info, read this caption:
