Default Charging wire run

Evening Ladies and Gents,

I just bought a 2016 f150 that’s equipped with Apple CarPlay but I’m not a fan of where I have to plug my charger in to access it. My question is has anybody attempted to run their charger from the Apple CarPlay USB port through the center console tunnel to pop out into the center console opening? It just looks cleaner and wanted some opinions before I drilled any holes.

cheers

I've never done exactly what you are wanting, but I have relocated usb and aux input locations of various vehicles. There are kits to do that, they are extension wires. Basically you remove the wire from the dash, plug in the extension to it, run the extension to the desired location, and mount a new plug in. The kits are not vehicle specific but you have to make sure its a data usb and not just a charge port. Data usb has more wires that communicate to the vehicle head unit. Charge cords have just whats needed for charging and won't let you play your music or transfer apps etc. This is a little tricky because some of the wires on the market don't work. This might be best left to a sound shop professional.

If you are just wanting a charging port, it's way easier. You can find cheap kits on ebay or amazon that you can wire into a 12v power wire under the dash, like your cig lighting/power adapter thingy lol. It's just two wires and a port that you can put inside your console. Videos are all over YouTube for this.

Here's a video of a guy just running his charging cord to the center console. Looks super easy.

I've added USB power sockets &/or cords to several vehicles. Not all required drilling - it's often possible to just tuck or fish the cord where you want it to go.

I'd get two rubber grommets for the first and last hole in the video. Clean it up a bit, maybe get a piece of sandpaper to smooth the edges. Cheap way to make it look neat, wouldn't need one for the middle hole. Will keep the cable from rubbing or cutting into the insulating jacket.

I've run mine a couple of places, either into the center console, or into the dash top cubby. I run a ham radio head unit and an iPad up there and have punched holes where I needed to in the console. As said above, get you a variety pack of grommets and take your time, and you'll get a nice finish. Pulling the console apart is a bit of a pain, so I just pulled the trim and cup holders off and worked in that space - tight but enough to achieve what I was wanting.
