I have a 2013 Ford F150 with built in navigation. I don't see it displaying the current speed limit. I use to use a Garmin and it game me that feature and changed the color to red when I was speeding. Is there an option I am missing to display this? Also Ford keeps sending me letters stating that I can get FREE shipping if I get the ukpdated map for $149. Any reason to upgrade? I would if it was free and I only had to pay for shipping. Ha ha.

My '13 Focus ST and my 16 F150 will both show speed limit signs somewhere on the screen when driving. They're tiny and you have to really look to find them. Beware: they're not always correct!
My wife's new '17 Fusion will take the icon and put it in her instrument cluster display so she doesn't even have to look at the center display. It's a pretty nifty feature.

This may have been said already, but I used to say factory nav in these trucks are useless if you have a smart phone. I was basing this opinion off my 2015 that had Sync2 with Navigation.
I played around with the navigation on a truck equipped with Sync 3 and it was very responsive. Still not faster than opening the Google Maps app and just typing in an address or business name, thus meaning with Apple Car Play it will be that much better.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I still think a navigation app is better, but I can't scoff at factory navigation with Sync 3 as easily as I could with Sync 2.

If you guys would just download the destinations app for your phone and use that to tell the factory nav unit where you want to go. It makes so much easier. Just type in the address then send it to sync. once in your truck just use the voice command systems and it will ask if you want to get directions to the location you last sent to sync. Say yes and hit the set as dest icon on the screen and go.

I was very irritated that I had to pay an extra $800 for the nav just because it happened to be on the only truck I could find that had everything else I wanted. I too exclusively used the Google maps on my phone and saw absolutely no need to for the built in nav.
It's been 6 weeks since I bought the truck, and I have to say that love the but in nav!! For one it's nice not to have to fumble around to look at my phone all the time, and what I really like about the nav is it gives you a "point of view" image with an arrow leading you just as you are approaching a turn so it takes out any guesswork or confusion as to which ramp to exit of the highway.
I also like how at any time even if the nav is off, and no matter what screen you are on, on the upper right border of the screen it shows the current street you are on.
I have to say I will absolutely pay the money to get it on my next truck as well.
I have run it side by side with Google on my phone just to compare. So far, all the routes have been the same, however the ETA on the nav is always longer than what Google shows, but I have actually found the nav to be more realistic.

I'm always amazed that more people don't order what they want and skip what they don't.

Since I keep vehicles 15-20 years, things like Navigation I don't get. They are only supported 3-5 years. I can simply add a new one every few years and have an updated version.

I've got a 2016 with Nav. It's slow, turn warnings are frequently too late. Consistantly tells me to turn right to get on the freeway from a service road. (maybe I got the British version????) Traffic warnings don't work unless I pay annually for a subscription.
I built a dash mount for for my 7" Garmin. free lifetime traffic data, free lifetime map updates. 1/2 mile turn warnings. I can live with the dangling cord.

This. How many of these electronic doodads will still be functioning in 10 years? My money is on few, if any, and it would really **** me off to drive around a perfectly good, 12 year old truck that is cluttered with broken, obsolete electronics.

I have Nav on my truck only because it was already there. I never use it because the Waze app on my phone is so much better. It gives up to the minute displays of construction, accidents, police, and a lot more. Its saved me a few times. Just yesterday I was traveling on the interstate and it told me to exit and follow an alternate route. Sure enough, a few miles ahead there was a major accident and both sides of the interstate were shut down. Probably saved me over an hour of frustration and drive time. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out.
