Default Windshield Wiper Block

I know I have seen it on here before but I can't find it. I just replaced my wipers for the first time and a little metal block came out. Where does this go and what is it for?

Thanks.

IIRC, it is a piece used in production, Mine have fallen out without replacing wipers.

This happened on my 2013. It's an indexing key that goes on the splined wiper arm shaft (sits in a groove in both the wiper shaft and wiper arm). I've heard they're mostly so the factory can align the wiper arm perfectly on the first shot, but that they aren't really needed. The could help to prevent slipping also, but I haven't run into the issue. I meant to put them back in with a dab of silicone or something, but it's been about 20K miles and they're still sitting in a ziplock on my work bench.

Thanks. I knew I had seen something about it before. But didn't know if they were needed or not. If they aren't, I'm not going to worry about it and leave them out. It seems like I would have to replace them every time I changed my wipers.

I was wondering what those were. I had my windshield replaced on my '16 and then found those. I think I threw them away. Lol

It's just an index key to align wipers from factory. You do not need them. Mine are somewhere down the drain hole at car wash. I always flip the wiper arms up when pressure washing the windshield. I actually never saw them. Just assume it's there.
