Default Wind-like Noise When Accelerating

I have a 2015 V6 Nat Asp. F150 4x4. It has an intermittent wind-like noise. I know it is not wind because it changes loudness based on pedal position, not speed.

It sounds like wind noise and a little scratchy. Its not super loud - I have to turn down the radio to hear it better. It sounds like its coming from in front of me, specifically the engine bay. The noise is unique and distinguishable from wind and regular engine noise.

I've noticed the following:
  • Intermittent - doesn't happen every drive - I'd say once every three trips
  • More prevalent when cold - <20F
  • More prevalent at highway speeds >50mph
  • It doesn't happen at idle, becomes audible at slight throttle, increases until about 1/3 throttle, and stops above that point. Above 1/3 throttle, the trans downshifts. Either the noise stops or the engine noise drowns it out.
  • It is not speed dependent - same noise at 1/4 throttle at 40 mph as 1/4 throttle at 70 mph

Has any experienced anything similar? Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for any help.

-Steve

Will it do it when stopped and revving engine? Could be a pulley, tensioner, belt, vaccum, intake, etc.
