Default Wifi system question

I'm not technologically advanced and am having trouble utilizing the wifi set up. I've set it up and have the wifi signal on my iphone and laptop, but can't even do a google search it's so slow. Any advice would be appreciated.

The truck plays middleman with WIFI. There really isn't a reason to use it IMO. Just have the laptop connect through your phone.

The truck is only a wifi client, it does not provide hotspot services. You'll need to hotspot off of you phone.

Thanks for the information. The salesman said it was a wifi hotspot like the GM. Guess he was wrong!

Nothing new there. Some of those guys will say anything for a sale. The 2017 can be ordered with Sync connect, but it doesn't look like that has hotspot capabilities, just connected services. Not sure why everyone wants a car to be a hotspot, just use the phone and be done with it. Why worry about another data plan.

It was big a few years ago for contractors... like me... where we had multiple devices that we needed to connect, like a laptop/ipad/etc... but now adays the ipads etc.. have 3g/4g.

It is usefullif you have 3-4 people that need wifi access, BUT its slow. Basically it uses your phone as a hot spot.

A few years ago carriers CHARGED you for this feature or the phones did not offer it. So you could not use your phone to provide network to others. Now adays most phones do this, free of charge. But back then this was a good idea as you could share your internet connection with others... pretty much useless now adays.

Agree with everything said here. You may know this, but I recommend going into the WIFI settings in the truck and connect it to your home wifi if you have signal where you park. The truck will check for Sync3 updates automatically.
