Title. My work has a long hill going out of it, I have noticed if I start the truck and leave, rolling down the hill it has zero engine braking even in first gear. However if I run it and let it warm up, then it has engine braking as it should. Is this some weird thing due to variable intake runners?

I've never noticed that. Now I'm going to be looking for somewhere to try it.

I’ve only noticed engine braking in tow/haul, sport mode or with cruise on.

There is none when just coasting down a hill, braking, hot or cold.

You also have a HIGHER idle rpm on startup and engine is cold.

Sorry I should have mentioned, I was trying this in manual mode so manually leaving it in first or second gear going down the above mentioned hill, it just rolls away with the RPM's going up to 4000+ if the engine is cold.

Also, AS/S will not engage until engine is at proper operating temp.

Probably part of the cold start strategy to get the engine up to temp faster. Won't fully shut off fuel in an attempt to make heat.

That makes perfect sense honestly.
