Default Why buy seat covers when I can buy factory replacements when I need them

I've been looking at seat covers, but I found that I can buy a whole set of factory covers for way less.

I've been looking at seat covers from $300 to over $600.

I can buy the exact covers from Ford that my truck as for $95 (slightly used). I would just use my seats as they are and then replace them if I really screw them up.

What do you guys think ?

Thank you !

I don’t see a problem with that logic. I’m sure the factory covers are much harder to install than covers that slip on over the existing seats, though.

If you want to store them for that just in case is up to you. What do you do with them if that just in case time never comes about?

Have you ever really screwed up your seats that needed the covers replaced? I have owned a lot of trucks and cars over the years and only once did I forget a screw driver in my rear pocket and rip a seat. I brught it to an upholster and had it fixed in an hour for under $50.

Your truck your call.

I wouldn’t bother buying parts you may not need. Even if the factory take offs become hard to find, nothing is stopping you from ordering Katzkin leather. Either way, make sure you understand the scope of work involved in swapping covers. It can get tedious.

Or Lariat Leather

But ya, I quit using seat covers a while back. What am I saving them for?

Unless you buy them now and store them, the “new take offs” will be for the next generation of trucks and not yours by the time you wear yours out.

Default Wow - that makes no sense at all

Are you suggesting new take-offs will stop happening as soon as the truck goes next gen? How u figure?

You can also get cheap temporary-use seat covers to use when you're dirty or wet, and take them off when you don't need them.

Last year when we went hunting we just threw cheap old blankets over the seats. Kept the dogs from getting everything muddy in the back too.

think. New take offs will continue, but the trucks they come from will be the next generation with different seats and not fit yours. Can you get new ones for the 2004-2008 generation? How many new 2008 trucks are there to take them from? Try to find them from a new 2009-2014.

Obviously if you need them 6 years from now when yours wear out, Ford won’t build you a new 2020 model year truck to take them off of in 2026. The take offs you want will have 6 years of wear and tear but that time.
