First time caller..

Changed fluid, filter, and gasket in mine at 70k mi, in my garage, checked the level with the dipstick, temperature with infrared thermometer....works like a charm.

What does the computer tell you?

I was looking for a How To but didn't find anything on 15 or newer.
I have a 2015. You drop the transmission pan there is a 19mm bolt just above it on the passenger side with the mini dip stick attached to it

I just did mine in the driveway. My 2016 6r80 has 45000 miles. I just dropped the pan, bolted on an aftermarket pan on with a drain plug and filled her back up. Took a tad over 6 quarts. It's a simple procedure but a PIA at the same time cause the filter keeps falling out while I'm trying to put the pan back on. Plus the dip stick/fill hole is next to the cat and you have to fill it while the engine is running and the fluid is 195-215 degrees. Get some gloves. I plan on draining and filling every 30,000 or so and changing the filter every other time. Not gonna bother with flushes.

Refill amount with the default pan would be useful, i see the instructions state 3.5qts for the initial fill to get up to temp.

When I pulled my engine I changed the tranny fluid since I lost some fluid from the cooler and lines. I have a Motive power fill that works great for diffs, transfer cases, and transmissions without fill tubes. The end is hooked and sits in the fill hole perfectly. This is what it looks like:

Thanks tmcolegr for posting this information!
I do have a couple of additional questions regarding this topic, if you have time to respond.
  • Do these documents apply to the 2018 3.3L V6, with a 6R80 transmission? (I did not see the 3.3L referenced in the documents)
  • What is the correct part number or model number of transmission fluid filter for the 2018 6R80? I have seen two part numbers out there, so I'm uncertain which to buy ... (FT188 or FT200)?
  • What is the correct part number for the 6R80 transmission pan gasket?
Thanks for any insight to Ford's lacking documentation!

Default Ford ATF Chart by Vehicle and Transmission

Hey Fellow Owners',

I stumbled across this document while trying to determine my own needs for which ATF I needed for my truck after reading that some owner manuals had the wrong information in them.
Anyway hope this helps someone.

I'm just thinking that the Ford parts counter (You can even call them) should know the correct pan gasket and fluid stock numbers.
I had mine changed by a Ford tech at about 33K miles and again a few months ago by a dealer when he replaced the lead frame.
