Default White Platinum TC turns yellow

Brought home a white f150 platinum last week. It rolled off the assembly line in Nov of 2016. I had it washed and waxed and now the painted plastic areas have stained yellow. That is, the painted plastic pieces between the headlamps and grill, the front bumper, the piece behind the handles, and a piece at the bottom corner of the truck bed are all stained yellow. All of the painted metal is fine. The wax was a Meguiars wax that should've been safe to use. It was applied in the shade and left on for about 15 minutes. Anyone ever heard of this?

I've never seen that before. How about the other side?

I have seen this across most if not all mainstream automotive manufactures and it is pretty common. I am not an automotive painter and I do not play one on TV but it is my understanding that it is hard to get paint to match on metal and plastic and it yellows over time. You might try some general Googling on this to get a better understanding of how widespread it is and what causes it. Hopefully an automotive painter will chime in on this.

[EDIT]
I'm not sure if this helps but I did a search for how to restore white automotive plastic that has yellowed and it looked like it had some good info. You might also check out the auto detailing forum here.

Which Meguiars product? Have the same color and have had no issues with their stuff.

Thanks for the replies. The other side is the same. I used the cleaner wax paste in the maroon container. My questions, is this a defect in the paint on the plastic? Does it lack clear coat? Covered by warranty? I'm planning to take it to the dealership Wednesday.

My first car was a '96 pearl thunderbird that was very close to this new white gold in color. There were parts, plastic and metal that were more yellow than others. In my opinion the color doesn't age we'll.

But this truck is brand new. And initially the paint looked great. This shouldn't happen.

That looks horrible. Interestingly, the trim on the fenders, I guess the factory "flare", doesn't seem to have yellowed. Is that plastic or aluminum? I'd assume plastic. Either way, I hope it gets straightened out for you. good luck

Some folks who are replying here misunderstood the OP's post....he is saying the paint was white before he applied the wax. The wax turned it yellow.

Correct. It does seem like a few people are thinking it has to do with time or age, but according to the OP, it's a new truck. I've never come across this before in my experience as a vehicle owner. Again, Good luck to the OP.
