Default When does the oil consumption show?

Hey guys I'm not exactly new here but I'm back under a new name. Used to be here under a name I csnt remember when I had the 2008 f150.

So for those that have had the 5.0 consumption problem I'm wondering when it started for you.

A little context. I have a 2019 5.0 Lariat that I bought at 40,000 miles (probably why the other guy traded it in). I checked the oil 2000 miles after I took possession and believed it was low. So I cab safely say it was sold to me like that.

So long story short ford dealer has my truck right now. We've been back and forth a few times doing consumption tests. Their service writer told me it burned 2 quarts in 700 miles. They had my truck the last couple of days and called to say it would be ready to pick up tomorrow.

Now we know it's probably not fixed but I wanna hear what they have to say. I talked to them yesterday and they had put dye in the oil to see where it was going and had no luck so they needed it another day to take out the plugs. I'm assuming to bore scope or something.

I'm just trying to get more educated on the whole thing because I don't wanna shell out 10 grand at 70,000 miles. I never heard about the problem until I bought this one as I had a 2016 2.7 ecoboost before it. Ran great shouldn't have traded haha.

So as the title says when does this problem rear it's head? Can it do it at anytime? Is it like thst from the beginning.

I'm assuming they did the tsb pcv valve fix and want to see where thst goes but if they couldn't find it yesterday that fix will probably do nothing.

Anyway thanks in advance.

The "oil consumption" problem on late model Coyote engines is related to vacuum pressures and is fixed for most people with a software update. It is not a physical problem with the engine. I had it done and my oil usage stopped. Has the dealer mentioned the oil usage TSB?

Branching off what FordGate said now anyone can correct me if im wrong but mustangs have the same motor and same rings and sleeves. That being said they are not having this issue therefore I believe it to be a software issue. But make sure they do any TSB's and it may help to print them and confirm with them.

Best of luck!

There is a lot of info you need to search for and some answers to the question.
From 2018 on the engines have spray in bore coatings, not sleeves.
Since your just getting wind of this and there is a lot to it, I don't want to go over it all again just to bring you up to date.
Only to say the TSB software change is not the fix but it does affect usage a small amount. That's why it is a bit BS, as a cover up action.
Good luck.

So I got my truck back today. They didn't offer to do the TSB or dipstick, they ordered cylinder heads for it.

Out of warranty, right? I would have them do the TSB first to see if that resolves the issues, which I suspect it will.

No it's still in warranty at 49000.

I don't understand why they would not do the TSB. I would insist they do the TSB and run it for a month or so and see if the oil leakage stops. Most dealerships I would never trust them to replace the heads. Too much for them to eff up.

I found it curious myself. Although they did find oil when they removed my plugs. They are doing what Ford is telling them because they already escalated it.
