BINGO! I have driven over 20,000 miles a year for 23 years. This year if things go as par, I will have about 24,000 miles. I have never leased anything to drive.

Think about that, cars take their biggest hits on depreciation the first 2-3 years- so you, as a leaser do the Ford Motor Finance Company a huge favor by volunteering to take that hit every lease. The best thing to do is buy a lightly used 2-3 year old truck every 2-3 years if you want a "new" truck that frequently.

Paying full sales tax every 2-3 years would be pretty expensive. At least that's how it works here in CA.

Why are folks putting money down on a lease? Big no-no.

A lease can be a good thing for certain people, but you have to know what you are doing. Never put money down, never leave miles on the vehicle, don't go excessively over-miles, and don't blow money on excessive mod's.

If you drive less than 20K miles/yr, like having a new vehicles every 2-3 years, have a business to use as a write-off, and can handle the payment without putting money down, a lease might make sense. Also enjoy the fact that the lessor carries all the risk if something happens (accident/damage/stolen) to the vehicle. I personally don't want to own a new vehicle used for transportation. Specialty cars, classics, etc... you bet. Daily transportation... no thanks.

I've been leasing for the better part of 30 years, and have enjoyed a lot of great vehicles. Some were hard to give back, others, more than happy to hand over the keys!

In the end, everyone has to answer to their own budget & lifestyle, and make the appropriate choices. Lease or buy is just another example.

By the way, the truck in my sig: $398/mo/36 mo/12K yr/$0 down

Buying slightly used is the absolute worst with the incentives offered on trucks these days... cars are a different story

Here are more findings on autotrader
2018 Lariat 502A = $54,0000
2016 Lariat 502A = $48,000
2014 Lariat = $35,000

Anyways... I knew this thread would turn into a lease vs finance debate just like every other thread that mentions the word "lease"
I see your view point of it, however, I'm almost certain a 2008 lariat purchased new in 2008 was not 50K. It probably sold for 35K. The last 6-8 years truck prices have skyrocketed. So an equivalent new truck actually purchased for 50K- I could definitely see one selling for low 20's with around 100K miles. Look at Surburbans and Tahoe's, they definitely sell for that price range 10 years old.

Doesnt putting cash down on a lease defeat the purpose of a lease?

I have a 2016 XLT with the 302a package. I put zero down, 36 month, 12,000 miles a year and my payment is $480. But, I also traded a year early from my previous lease and the dealership paid off the remaining payments on the truck I traded in.
The payment can be a little misleading on leases because the taxes are included in the monthly payment. In my case, if I remember correctly, it's $30.00.
I lease because I like getting into a new vehicle every couple years and I don't have to worry about any out of warranty repairs. Also, if I get a lemon or don't like the vehicle, in general, who cares? I'll just turn it in at the end and get something different.

The short answer is...No! When I traded in my last lease, it had a dent in the driver door. ( thank's a-hole at Wal-Mart) the bed was pretty scratched up, the tires were getting worn and it needed new front brake pads and rotors. ( it shook a little when applying the brakes) They never said a word about any of that stuff. In fact, I watched my salesman and the manger look it over... They walked around it, opened and closed the tailgate, opened the doors, looked at the interior and said it looks good. They never drove it or even listened to it run. You are allowed a certain amount of wear and tear on the vehicle when you turn it in.

LOLOLHAHAHHA I would be over the leasing miles on both of these in one year. Hence why I can never lease.

Hi, I had two leases at one time. One was a car for my wife and the other was a truck for my business. The car was dumb and the truck was smart. I will never ever lease again. I don't finance anymore either.

To me, a lease is just a fancy term for rental.
