Default What is this thing?

Hello all. First post here and I really don’t know where else to look for answers.

Does anyone have any idea what the heck this is in the picture? It’s in my 2017 F-150 with the 5.0. My work truck is a 2019 F-150 with the 3.5 and it does not have this thingamajig.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

And here’s an overall of the truck.

Probably a GPS tracker. Makes it easy to locate your vehicle should the repo man have to come out and get it...

Remove the 2 screws.. maybe a label in the back have the response. Does not look like a oem feature and where that cord plugs?

Have you tried tracing that wiring harness back? Anyplace to plug something into the front? Or is that a light on the front? Tried pushing what looks like a button?
Some kind of electronic trinket it looks like.

It isn't factory and probably some sort of tracking device. I would remove it.

After chasing the wires down, I have determined that it is some sort of tracker geared towards theft recovery, but there isn’t much info on it on the internet.

Now to figure out how to get rid of it…

Dealers frequently install these on their cars on the lot. Many "buy here, pay here" lots also have them as above mentioned, it helps with recovery when they repo it to sell again. Those are usually more hidden though. I assume you did not buy this new. It is unlikely anyone is tracking the truck anymore. I would still remove it.
