What’s causing this sound?
There are a number of heat shields for the exhaust that will vibrate when lugging along at 1000rpm. Don't lug along at 1000rpm, these aren't huge displacement diesels.
check the heat shield on the exhaust pipe that travels transverse in front of the transmission.... mine was loose on my 2015 which made the exact same noise just above idle... i took a band hose clamp, tightened and it fixed it up

Could be a heat shield. Could be something else. Does it go away when in 4A/4H?
What year model is your truck. If it's a chevy, go buy a Ford.

You can change your driving habits to stay away from that condition. A slight delay when departing a stop gives vehicles ahead time to give me space so I don't have to accelerate at a very low throttle position. If I'm on an extended slight incline on a low speed road, I'll either put it in Tow/Haul, or pull back into manual before it goes into too low of a gear.
