Question What is this part and what does it do?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and this is my first post. I am not new to Ford, though, and have been a longtime member of mustangforums.com.

I have a 2015 XLT SuperCrew F150 that I recently took in for a recall. Very long story short, I got the truck back and three of the four doors rattled when I closed them. I took the truck back today and was told the issue was resolved. Well, it wasn't. I decided to go ahead and take the doors off myself and see what I could find. The front door was a bolt/washer that was loose, and I fixed that by tightening it down. One of the back doors, however, had a plastic piece sitting at the bottom of it (see pictures below). I pulled the part out, and the part number on it is FL34-264B53-AB. I had no idea where it went, so I took the other rear door off to see if it had the same part. It did, and I kinda see how it was installed. The part goes inside the rear doors, and appears to keep the door release cable attached to the inside slot of the part. What was very odd, is both parts only had the top screw installed. So, I decided to take the screw off the one that fell off and use it on the one that was installed. Once both screws were installed, this part prevented the door lock from operating. It put it in a very tight bind. I'm curious if these parts were part of the service I had done. Either way, they were not installed correctly. I tried searching the part number, but didn't find anything. I've decided for the time being that these parts are fine being removed from the truck. I'm sure there's a logical reason as to why they are needed, and hopefully I can get that answered here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I couldn't get the attachment feature to work, so I've created an imgur album: https://imgur.com/a/rLSs1Lk

That looks like the weather shield that is put in place over the latch during the recall.

Those are the new "shields" Ford thinks is the cure to the frozen locks and latches. Their idea is that this will prevent water intrusion into the lock/latch assembly. The verdict is still out however, as i have continued to get water and freezing issues since i installed the shields.

Each shield has 2 screws which mount it into the lock/latch assembly. You are correct in saying that it is not "needed".

So my question is, are these the right parts for my truck. The service shop had to have known they didn't fit right. Like I said, both parts only had the top screw installed, and weren't even attached correctly. What's also nice is after I took the doors off, I noticed I was missing one of the main bolts that holds the door in place, and the plastic trim piece under the handle release had 3 of the 4 tabs broken off of it. This is why I don't like to take my truck in for recalls.

My truck sits in a garage 80% of the time, and I drive my crown vic to work and run errands. I guess I'm okay with leaving these off then. Still debating whether I should go back and tell them about my discovery.

clearly they did a bad job putting it in. I would go back and have them replace all of the broken/missing items and go through to redo the work that seems to have not been finished if those aren’t supposed to be loose.
