Default What is this part?

New to this truck and certainly I don’t pretend to be a mechanical expert. Any idea what this insulation material is? Does it matter that it is fraying?

Use some good electrical tape and rap it up.

Those hoses go to the transmission cooler pictured as the rectangular metal canister above the sway bar in the photo. And as previously stated, it appears that some critter has been chewing on it. But it does not appear to have damaged the lines, so trim the hanging fibers off, and maybe use some aluminum tape to finish it. It also appears that whatever was chewing on this, chewed on the other hose covering a bit too.

damn critters. Got tired of spraying peppermint oil in engine compartment once a month, so hung a few moth ***** instead. Will see if that works better.

Most of the electrical wiring used these days has insulation made from soy. That is why rodents now like to chew on the wiring. It has been done to make the wiring easier to recycle, but the unintended consequences are a pain to deal with. I read somewhere that some Toyota owners started a class action lawsuit over this.
