When the "dip" first came out I didn't care for it, made me think of the big rigs, and it still does at times. I've gotten use to it, but still prefer the straight line bottom sill. JMO.
The mirror dip is one of the best F-150 features. Ever driven a Tundra/Sequoia? (I drove one) or Silverado/Sierra? (I owned one) They both have absolutely horrible visibility. Very tall hood and short windshield and side windows, you can't see a damn thing behind the wheel of either of them.
I had a person tell me they like the newer trucks, and have considered one, but are having a hard time getting past the window notch.
I was confused as I've never heard any dislike before that.
Like most above, it is one thing that sets Ford trucks apart from others.
There are a lot of similar designs among all the manufacturers these days and this is definitely non-mistakable as a Ford vehicle.

I use to think the same way. But the Aluminum body won out and now I like the dip as well. But it does look really good without it as well.
Kenworth trucks have had this door as an option for more than 20 years. They call it a Daylite Door and it improves driver visibility. That door was standard order on all of our Class 8 trucks.
The visibility of the F-series trucks is one of the reasons I chose my truck over the rest. The glass area is already better than the competition and the window dip makes it even better. It has definitely become a signature design of Ford trucks.
