Red face What happens to an F150 when T-boned...

Pictures say it all - workmate got T-boned at a 4 way stop and the air bags deployed. Fortunately no one was hurt and everyone got out of the vehicles before this happened.

Appears those aluminum beds just melt away....

the aftermath

Seems like another one where the seat belt retracter ignited the foam. Seen a few now where they caught fire after a crash. Started on drivers side?

Just noticed, its a 2018 too.

At least the frame and engine compartment are in tact. Shouldn't be totaled.

I got t-boned by an expedition doing 60mph & walked away with only a bruise from the seatbelt,no fire involved & the truck went airborn sideways over a hillside.
The truck saved my life,so i went out the very next morning & purchased another one,but instead of a standard cab i got a supercrew.
this is the 2nd one I've seen burnt to the ground in a week & both were supercrews 😔.

curious to know more about this. The retractor as in the on that in your seat and bring the seatbelt back when you unbuckle? Not sure how that would cause a fire but I’d like to hear more.

On impact there is an explosive charge in the retractor that pulls the belt tight and you with it so you are locked in the seat. Trust me when I say, you don't want to experience a head on as that belt gets REALLY tight! Separated my ribs. The retraction unit is down on the floor and there is foam in the rockers and under the floor to sound proof the interior, used to be called Quiet Steel, don't know if it's called anything now. The explosive charge produced high heat, but only briefly, but it looks like in some trucks, it is enough to ignite the foam, which will smolder for a bit then ignite, setting the truck on fire as you see. There was a poster last year who had rear ended someone, didn't set off the air bag, but the retraction unit did engage, and while he was outside exchanging information the truck caught fire.

After seeing that, I have a small fire extinguisher in the center console, just in case I can't get out after a crash.

Heres a video of an older one being set off

This would certainly suck a bit if you were an unconscious F150 driver and this happened.
