What engine oil for the 2017 Ecoboost?

I find that the filter is more important than the oil (as long as you use the recommended viscosity). It's been my experience that the OEM filters work the best. And Motorcraft filters are one of the best out there. Also your engine was designed and tested using Motorcraft oil and filters. Unlike everybody else you know exactly what kind of oil your engine was tested with and filled with at the factory. Anybody know what brand of oil a Ram or Silverado was filled with at the factory? Motorcraft oil and filters are available at most parts stores and Wal-Mart and it's usually cheaper than the rest. I applaud Ford for making the most routine maintenance items available everywhere not just the dealer.

I like the ultra platinum 5w30, but also consider the acea rated oils. Castrol makes a 5w30 a3/b4 api SL that's worth considering. The a3/b4 is a full SAPS oil with an hths>3.5, meaning it's a high performance oil spec. Another interesting one is the platinum euro L 5w30, which is acea c3 and api SN. That's a mid SAPS oil also with an hths>3.5. These higher SAPS and hths numbers mean better protection. Almost all other 5w30's are a1/by or a5/b5, which are fuel economy oriented, not durability.

In the case of the Silverado/Sierra it is AC Delco oil which is packaged for GM by Exxon/Mobil (ie Mobil 1) 0W-20 Dexos rated. In the case of the GM trucks it is now full synthetic oil
FCA has a contract with Shell and specifically Pennzoil for the OEM 5W-20 fill. I believe FCA also uses full syn as factory fill
Ford uses Conoco/Phillips as their supplier of factory fill.
Nobody finishes in second place with this list. All are good.
