What is it and do i need it

I had 2 of these on my tailgate but one dissapeared. What is it? What does it do ? Do i need to replace the missing one? Thanks

They are on the tailgate when it is installed at the factory to keep it from getting scratched as it is installed. The dealership missed taking it off before delivery. No, you do not need it.

thanks they did a crappy prep job when i got it delivered. doesn't surprise me.

I had those too that the dealer never took off. One felled off after a week. The other I threw away.
