Default What is the difference ?

I’ve been trying to look this up, not sure I’m understanding what the difference is between these transmission selections (Drive) verses (Manual) and using the button on the gearshifter.

I’ve tried using both and they seem to function the same?

D let's you limit the number of available gears but still works automatically. M mode is manual control.

You have a 6 speed.
Auto smooth shifting in normal mode under speed and Throttle application.
In Manual, you control how long it stays in a gear and when you want to up or down shift. This may be some advantAge under some higher load circumstances.
.
The later 10 speeds have 5 different shift modes that do different intents.
Actually 20 different gears if 4 Low is considered, besides adding front wheel drive to rear drive, when desired.
.
Normal. auto shifting
Tow/Haul. Extended gear use.
Wet/Snow. Additional Traction by special ABS control of the rear wheels, separately for slippage.
ECO. Skip Gear shifting and less Throttle response in favor of fuel mileage
Manual control. For spirited driving with manual shift control.
Each one does things differently in a 10 speed.
There are other differences but enough for now.
Good luck..

Thank you.
Hmmm…yesterday I thought it self-downshifted while in M, that’s why I was confused. I must have been mistaken, I’ll try it tomorrow.

I do know I tried to manually upshift, and it would blink, but not manually upshift unless I went faster.

I’m looking at this in order to use some engine braking in a couple of daily conditions so I don’t wear out brakes rapidly or possible cook them.

If RPM gets too low (cruising up to a stoplight) in Manual, it will downshift on its own. I’ve never tried upshifting early but presume the same protections are present just to stop the engine from lugging.

So I was right, it did downshift.
I believe if you try upshift early, the gear indicator light will blink, but not shift until you go faster.
