What can you tell a F150 has by its looks?
When I pass an F150 on the road,
I can tell an XL, STX, XLT, Lariat, Platinum, Limited, King Ranch from the badges
How do you tell a 4x2 from a 4x4 without the bedside stickers?
What about if it's packing a 3.3, 2.7, 5.0 or 3.5 engine?
I also know that only the max tow package trucks have the hitch with the safety chain loops on angles- but that's hard to see driving down the road.
What other "hints" does an F150 have to show what options/specs its carrying?

I can tell 2 or 4 wheel drive by ride height usually.
LED headlights means 502A package on Lariat. If it has halogens with BLIS taillights it's a 501A, and if it has incandescent taillights it's a 500A.
Shark fin antenna for sync connect.

2wd tend to sit a bit lower, and they generally have smaller tires than the 4wd trucks. Same size wheels, just smaller tires.
Tough to tell engine type, but if it has the ecoboost badges, then it's got an ecoboost motor. :-) If it's a higher trim truck, most likely the 3.5 eco, if a lower trim truck it's a toss up between the 2.7 and the 3.5
Generally the 5.0 and the 3.5 engines have the flexfuel badge. Not sure about the 3.3 motor. Unless the truck is a base XL, a flexfuel badge will 90% indicate a 5.0

Ecoboost badges give part of the motor equation away, as for the n/a counterparts really aside from sound the only visible difference is the tailpipe diameter is 1/4 inch smaller on the 6 banger and the base 6 is only available in xl and xlt. If the eco's safety chain hook angles on the hitch will give away if it has max tow thus meaning it's a 3.5eco....that's about all I can come up with off the top of my head lmao

I could rattle off differences for days, but that is probably my OCD kicking in. That or the hours that I spend on the Ford site building all of the different trim levels.
As long as you are talking stock for stock, one of the quickest tells for me is the front grill. This will give you the trim level.
Turbo motors will likely have an EcoBoost badge on the front doors, with nothing on the tailgate. N/A motors are typically the opposite with a flex fuel badge on the back.
The rest of the tells get to be pretty nit-picky, but they are there...
