There is another thread on this same topic. It looks like Funnyman06 has done some homework on the topic. Perhaps a salvage yard transfer case could also be a lower cost option.

I'm coming from a Infiniti that has 4A and I love it. You can't get on an RCSB, the highest trim level is an XLT.

Subscribing!

Actually the salvage yards want the same or more than what you can get from Tasca.

Doesn't surprise me those guys are sort of crazy!

For me the parts you pointed out the shipping is $64. Doesn't seem too bad to me either.

I live in snow country and that was a major reason why I traded my XLT for a Lariat. Nothing wrong with the XLT but that automatic four wheel drive is golden in snow country. I can be on a snow packed road one minute and the next minute a wet road. Just put the truck in auto and go! The Ford marketing people are very shrewd on how they put truck packages together for sure.

This is the issue I have. I might go from a snow covered driveway up a hill and have to make a turn onto a perfectly plowed street. My jeep liberty was perfect for that stuff, had select trac and you could throw it in 4x4 Full Time and not worry about it.

Bought a 2012 Lariat because it had 4A (first year it was introduced), will not own another truck without it.

I own a 2012 6.2 F150 but I bought it specifically for the better transfer box. I personally think Ford should allow this option on lower trim packages. I think Ram/Chevy do the same thing but you can't even get this on Toyota/Nissan.

I have spent quite a bit of time on Ford's site and was unaware that this was even available, but now that I know I see it is there. Ford doesn't do a good job clarifying the upgrades in the packages, and maybe more would buy the upscale packages if they did. Lariat is the highest trim level in an extended cab, so I have no choice but to option it up. Really wish I could get the platinum and heavy payload package on it. As it stands, looks like I'll need to make mods just to tow my 7,000lb trailer with some safety margin. No big deal, that's why they make parts.

Don't get me wrong, I would have accepted a free Lariat bump from an XLT if It would have happened (in my dreams).
But here in Cdn, a Lariat can be priced 10K above XLT.

I'm doing X plan, so it's no real advantage to spend a bunch of energy and time finding the best deal on the lot vs. just ordering what I want. Just don't have the time to find the best deal and then piecemeal it to what I need. Much easier to buy some stock and do the X plan. Besides, Ford stock is a great deal these days. I do enjoy reading about it though. Amazing the lengths guys will go to just to add an item that can be ordered.

You can get the heavy payload package on a Lariat if you stick with the 500A trim package and an 8 foot bed.
