Default What is this?

Wondering what this portion of the engine is, to the left of the oil cap, where there's a plug of some sort. I see what appears to be oil around it. It doesn't look this way on the other side of the engine. Is the oil concerning?

I believe it's the VCT solenoid connector. The seal is leaking, it should be repaired.
