Default Weird Steering Wheel Controls Issue

Context - I have a 2015 lariat, FX4 with 106xxx miles. Knock on wood, it’s still running strong. But the last week or so I’m having a weird issue trying to control the dash screen or radio with the steering wheel. For example, the buttons don’t seem to be lining up and controlling as they should - sometimes I’ll press “ok” but instead of selecting a menu option, the highlighted option shifts up instead of being selected.

My question, two fold, is has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know the easiest fix? Can I pull apart the steering wheel, realign the panel (or whatever it is) underneath the buttons, and put back together? Can I do this myself or will I have to take it to the dealer?

Or do I need to just replace the whole steering wheel? Or any other options I’m not considering here?

Likely the clockspring. It is the mechanism that all the steering wheel circuits pass through so the wheel can turn without loosing the circuits. It is a reasonably common failure, especially for the MYs 2015 and 2016. There are many many threads in this forum section regarding clocksprings and how to fix them. It is something you can do yourself if you are the least bit handy.

Here is a god one, and there are plenty more. Good luck.

Perfect, thanks. I didn't even know what to search for. Definitely looks like my issue.

FYI, there are two different clocksprings depending on the option level or your truck. The design of the clockspring was revised several years ago and the Ford replacements seem to be robust.
