Weird rattle
TLDR: Weird tick, not cam phasers. Ford says it’s a bad starter. Watch the videos.
Okay, so I have had a weird rattle when my truck starts for a little while. I had the cam phasers replaced 3 months ago and it’s a totally different sound. The sound is only on cold starts and it will consistently make it until you get on the gas pretty good, then it will stop. I laid under the truck, and had my wife start it multiple times, the sound is definitely coming from the back of the motor. I took it to a few different dealership and finally one diagnosed it as the starter not totally disengaging and allowing it to tick. Does this seem correct?
It’s a 2017 f150, with a 3.5 ecoboost and 90k miles.
