Anyone know what the labor manual lists the labor time to replace a water pump on a 2018 f150 with a 3.5 ecoboost is. I broke down in nowhere alabama and am stranded. I have the truck at a local mechanic and was able to source the part, but am trying to make sure I am not getting hosed on the labor. I got qouted approx $1100. I dont have much choice but trying to get screwed as litle as posible. Already have to pay for a hotel for at least 2 days because of the time i broke down last night.
Full Update on page 2 with a quick note here -
I would recommend D&D Automotive and Towing in Evergreen, AL to anyone in the area who needs work on their vehicle. Out the door price for towing and water pump replacement $650 without me having to say a word about the initial high quote.

Reason: Update page 2
From what I saw on KBB it could be from $450 to $850. I was hoping that I could get the labor hours so I might have a counter point on what the final bill is. I get that it depends on his rate, but I was hoping to have at least some small leverage on the final charge. Might not do me any good anyway as he has me by the nuts and knows it. As I said, I really don't have much of a choice as I am 5 hours from my tools and have no other way to get home with the truck. Otherwise I would do it myself and save a ton of money. Thanks for the input though.
The water pump on you engine [same as mine] is attached directly to the front of the engine with little obstruction. In the old days, they would have been hidden inside the timing cover. Ask the mech what is involved with the procedure. If he answers with what I describe in the latter, let him, at least, know that you know where the water pump is located. 1100 bucks for a water pump job is totally ridiculous! The water pump is directly behind that big, black, pulley.
Just got off the phone with 2 different ford dealers. They quoted 3.5hr job at $125/hr. This is more in line with what I thought. The work is already in progress due to me not having many options at the moment. Is there any recourse for me, other than looking at the invoice and talking to the shop prior to paying. If I end up paying what he asks, can the credit card fraud dept. help in any way? I don't mind paying a small premium due to circumstances, but double seems absurd. Sorry if I seem dumb in this area, but this is the first time in my 43 years that I have been stranded this far from home.

You might have been better buying the few tools you would have needed and have done it yourself?
Too late now to do anything about it as you must have agreed with the price?
For that price maybe renting a u haul with trailer and bringing it home would have cost less?
I agree, highway robbery!
Sounds like the mechanic knows he has you by the short hairs & is charging you accordingly. He knows he will never see you again. There`s nothing you can do with the credit card. That`s what he charged & that`s what you agreed to pay. Your situation sucks, but it is what it is. Let us know if he lowers the price. Good luck.
Be thankful he is doing the job on the spot. I hear people waiting weeks for the Ford dealer to even look at things. You are in a bind, you are getting the 'put me in front of the line' price. No, no recourse, you agreed. Leave a Google review for the next person. Even 2 more days wait, hotel, food, loss of work... Is what it is.
I agree. I am very thankful for all that has gone down. I appreciate him being able to work on it as soon as he was. My family found a ride home with another family member who was a few hours behind us on the same vacation. I just hate to be taken advantage of if that is what is happening. I have not seen an actual invoice/signed an estimate or work order. Every thing that was stated was all verbal and I may have misunderstood something as I was stressed out at the time. The shop that is working on the truck is the same that towed me in from the interstate. It is possible that the number that was thrown out included the towing as well. I will update when I know the final outcome. It's just a crappy situation, but it could always be worse. At least I have the funds available to cover these unexpected costs. Thanks again for all the replies.
