Default want to use navigation system while iphone plugged in

I have a 2017 Platinum with NAV system. I like the system but my kids often plug their iphones into the front USB to listen to their music and all I can access is their iphone music, maps etc. I want to access the trucks NAV system and still let the kids listen to their music. Yes I've searched the forum and the manual but haven't seen anything regarding this.

Can't you just hit the Sync button on the menu, to get back into the non-Carplay section and start the NAV from there?

If not just disable CarPlay and use their phones as a "Source" in the Sync 3 music app.

The info you want is here:

Turn off Apple CarPlay in the settings and then you can do it.

I'm pretty sure you have to disable mobile apps before they plug their phone in. Their phone will still play music through the usb port (just minus the pretty carplay stuff) and you can use your app. I think their is also a way to make the nav the default map program while using carplay but I"m not sure, seems like it asked me what I which one I wanted the first time I plugged the phone in.

Easy as stated above. Go into settings then select Car Play. Select the kids phone and disable Car Play. Do this for each phone as needed.

I have mine enabled in my truck and my wifes disabled when we ride together to stop this from happening.

Enjoy

Thanks for the great help. I'm not exactly the most tech savvy person and hate to experiment as I'm certain I'll screw up something else. You guys are great!

Not to hijack this thread but any advice on how to keep my ipod from dropping of my available sources while in use. Basically, the ipod is plugged in but it will stop playing and drop from my available sources for the radio. I have to unplug the ipod, wait about 30 seconds, and plug it back in to get it to work again.

Are you using an Apple cable. If not start with a new one.
