Default VCT Issues

Has anyone that has had the following Variable Cam Timing (VCT) problems, as evidenced by DTCs P0011, P0012, P0021, and P0022, found that their problems were related to low oil pressure or volume?

Thanks.

Paul

More than know. Yesterday, I had just read a post from someone on FB who was getting the same codes for cam position errors. Said he changed his oil and the codes went away. Replied that I wasn't surprised. Got to keep the oil clean for these timing systems.

P0022 came up along with rough running and shifting. Replaced the solenoid and all is well. Had nothing to do with dirty or low oil.

Not saying you should try it but I found 5w40 stopped the codes, but sadly my truck is in the shop for the phasers now as the APIM died and since it was rattling like a diesel and had 74 codes from the last 50K miles they are fixing both under my extended warranty.
And from what I gather from the service writer is they are replacing the entire system, phasers, chains, tensioners and solenoids. thats the only way i can think of that it would be around $3600. and the APIM going black is to thank for the repairs. Otherwise I would have just kept using 5w40 and had no issues.
It would still randomly bog down and rough idle but not to the degree that 5w20 oil caused.

A solenoid, operated by an electro magnetic coil could have an open circuit.
