Used 2015

Used 2015
I'm looking at purchasing a used 2015 F150 FX4 Sport package Supercrew 4X4 5.0L with 46k miles. The guy is asking just under 29k for it. The miles do seem a little high, but from what I've seen it doesn't seem like that price is too far off from what it should be in our market. Any thoughts on if I should run away as fast as I can? I know there's a ton of variables that need to be considered, so lets just say it's in excellent condition.

I would try to see if you can get the VIN and look up the window sticker to see exactly what it has for options. I think it is currently difficult for anyone here to give you a solid opinion based on the fact that there are several other items to take into account (the biggest being the package XLT/Lariat/etc. and electronics package) I would then check it out on Kelly Blue Book and NADA to see if it is a fair price.
Other things to consider:
1.) How did they rack up the milage? Was it just highway or were they towing a lot?
2.) Do you know the individual? Sometimes this makes a big difference because you know if they take care of it or abuse it.
3.) I would definitely look around and compare it to any 2016 or even 2017 on the dealer lots. If you aren't super picky and find a solid leftover or one that has been sitting for awhile you might get very comparable deal on a new truck. Pay attention to interest rates as well as that could factor into your cost given that an older truck is likely to have a higher rate.

Not sure where you're located, but I think you could buy a brand new truck in a 2017 with the same or close to the same options for under $40,000! XLT crew cabs and super cabs are discounted 10 to 12 thousand off sticker here in the Minneapolis area. There is a huge selection on every lot. My dealer had 375 2017's available!

Without more information on the truck (options, etc), it's difficult to say if this is a good buy or not.
Assuming no other options aside from sport appearance, FX4, and 5.0 for an XLT SuperCrew 4x4, $29k is almost exactly the trade-in value he would get from the dealer.
With that in mind, you usually aren't able to buy a car from a dealer at trade-in prices, so it's a pretty decent deal.
You can get pretty sizable discounts on new cars, so you prob can get into a new one for $10k more, but then again, another $10k on a $29K truck is an additional 1/3 of the total cost. Also, that 2017 is going to take a huge hit once you drive it off the lot and probably only be worth $35k, putting you instantly $5k in the hole, whereas you'll start building equity in the 2015 right away.
Personally, I don't usually get involved in used cars where mileage is over 40k. I like to get cars that have lower mileage than usual (even if I end up paying a bit of a premium) because in 3-4 years when I'm looking to sell or trade-in, a truck with 60K miles is going to be worth a lot more than a truck with 100K miles (if you can even find many buyers for a high mileage ford truck). Not to mention, maintenance and repair costs begin to pile up around the 50-60K mile range and get exponentially higher as you add on miles. If you find a low mileage truck in the 15-20k range, you might not even need to replace a set of tires if you get rid of it in 3 years and don't put on much mileage.
Also, you are out of the factory bumper to bumper warranty and the drivetrain warranty stops at 50K as well (so you have that to consider).

Has the truck ever been in an accident? Clean VIN report would be my first concern. My 15 that sounds similar to what you are looking at stickered new for $47,095 and I paid $38,100 out the door including tax and title costs. This was as a new truck. F150's hold there value but as someone else suggested, maybe look at new. I just saw an ad on tv that super crew 4x4 XLTs were getting $10,500 off sticker. That's before any negotiating you can do.

price is fair. mileage isnt bad. engine and tranny are solid as long as maintenance has been done. so if it checks those boxes go for it.

2016 XLT fx4, two tone, full console, nav, 40,000 miles. Trade in value offered was 25,000$. To give perspective on retail of the truck ur looking at.
To me it sounds like it fair asking price.

Don't think it's too bad of a price..
Recently traded in my 2013 fx2 with 46k miles, got 25600 from my dealer,
came out with a 2016 Lariat sport for 36999. Really gave them hell for it.
Depending on where your at, I'd go for a new truck as the incentives are pretty good
