Default Turbo Adapters

I have ordered some SPD turbo adapters to help my turbos flow better. While I have my downpipes off would it be a good idea to punch out my cats for better exhaust flow? Will this throw a CEL? I am also considering doing a resonator delete.

please dont punch out the cats. You will gain nothing and it will throw the check engine light.

Thanks for your reply, I was just wondering if I would get a CEL. I am not punching out to get more HP or sound. I wanted to punch out so my turbo could break. I have seen plugged cats on high mileage vehicles cause problem for the engine. My truck now has 160,000kms and I have already replaced drivers turbo and now I need to replace passenger turbo. I just wanted to know if I could open up my cats to rule out if there are starting to plug up. But if it will cause a CEL then i will not be touching it. Hopefully my SPD adapters will get more heat away from my turbos.

If you're worried about it, larger downpipes are what you need. Not deletes

You will get OBDII codes if the cats are plugged.

Out of curiosity, why did you NEED to replace the turbos?

To point, please dont punch out the cats. If you are looking for better flow, I highly recommend the CVF y pipe. Just make sure you get O2 sensor standoffs for the rear sensors.

I started hearing odd ticking/squealing noises (thinking it was a belt pulley or something) then eventually I lost all boost and no power. I put a stethoscope on drivers turbo and couldn't hear it spooling compared to passenger turbo. When I took it apart the turbo shaft was snapped in half. Therefore I needed to replace turbo. Now the passenger side I am starting to hear the same noise so I think the writing is on the wall for that turbo. While I have it off this time I will be installed SPD adapters to try and get more heat away from the turbo.

Yikes! I have always said that if I need to replace my turbos, then I am getting something bigger!

Things to help:

Run FULL SYN oil. Let's not make this an oil thread.
Install a lower initial opening thermostat
Remove the engine cover (it's mostly decorative and others have reported lower engine temps
Allow them to breathe better - ala the adapters and a ypipe with higher flowing cats
always let your truck idle for 1-2 min before shutting it down. Especially after using the turbos a lot.

-yes I run 5w30 full syn mobil 1 and filter in all my vehicles.
-what temp t-stat are we talking about? and what would stock be?
- what size y pipe, 2.5" or 3"?
-I always let her cool down (2nd nature as i'm a marine engineer/diesel mechanic)
