Default Transmission not shifting?

Had a strange issue today at lunch. Was getting on the highway ramp, so I goosed it a bit to get up to speed. The motor went well into redline but didn't want to shift (I didn't notice if it was 2nd or 3rd), I let off the gas and the transmission shifted. After that it all seemed normal.

It also felt a bit as the transmission wasn't actually engaging, so it may have gotten "stuck" in between shifting gears. Anyone else had this issue?

Sometimes I'd swear the truck is possessed lol. I think my ex may have put a hex on it. One day the console display was completely off, no radio, no phone, nothing. I was about to take it to the dealer the next day but then it worked perfectly. Weird.

Anyways, if anyone has ideas, shoot. I'll also entertain instructions on how to exorcise the truck. ;-)

I haven't had this problem with my truck, but I've had it with another Ford vehicle. I stomped on the gas in my Fusion pulling out of a puddle and somehow that engine (3.0L V6) spun up past 7000 RPM for a split-second and just bounced off the rev-limiter after that. I had to let off the gas for a second or two for it to shift...not the safest thing in the world. I talked to Ford about it and they said that the PCM will stop a shift if it senses it could be destructive to the transmission and instead will use the rev-limiter to prevent engine damage. I'm not saying that's the issue with yours but sounds very similar. If you were on a slippery road and had any wheel-spin, this is most likely what happened.

Yes I was in sport mode! Why would that cause this? Now you got me very curious. I honestly thought I was losing the tranny there for a few seconds.

And it was on dry pavement.

Good catch.

Yep mine does the exact same thing in sport mode. It holds onto the gear in case you want to stomp on it again. It is strange, and I do not like it, but it is there. I am sure that is what you experienced.

That is really strange. I've floored it like that before and it never did that. I did notice that in sport mode it can hang onto a gear until the redline, even with partial throttle sometimes, but this time it seemed like it didn't want to shift up at all under full throttle.

I'll keep an eye on it. All these quirks and differences from my 99 make this a whole different beast to drive.
