2020 3.5 eco boost, 10 speed, owned since new now at 100,000 km, mostly highway with about 5-10% of that towing various boat trailers up to 5000 lbs. Basically problem free so far, but it is time for some preventative maintenance which will be done by dealer next week. Trans fluid change, change coolant and brake fluid.

I want the trans filter to be changed with the fluid change, but when I asked the selling dealer's service department (in Toronto), they said they do not change trans filter because not necessary and too much labour involved. I called a second dealer and got the same story.

The maintenance section of my owners manual says transmission fluid and filter is to be changed, but only at 240,000 km.

Ford Tech Makuloco has a YouTube video showing how to do the trans filter change and I can see it is an involved process. I've searched this forum and some have changed the filter themselves, but I lack the facility to do this.

Interested in knowing how many have changed trans fluid only, and whether anyone else got a dealer to change the filter.

 

After several transmission shops either priced themselves out or tried to dissuade me I went to the dealer and asked about dropping the pan and doing a service on the filter. While they didn't try to talk me out of it they did emphasize a flush instead stating it was more cost effective and more fluid exchanged. I had it done at 62k miles after 18,000 towing a fifth wheel and 5000 towing my boat. Since then I have put on 10,000 miles with no ill effects but it is peace of mind.

 

I would be interested hearing how your trans performs 15-20 K down the road- you couldnt get me to have mine flushed for anything.
