At 1400 miles had my transfer case replaced due to whine. It was the auto "4a" transfer case.
Had my truck at dealer for some TSBs last couple days and had a rental 2016 XLT 4x4 with no "4a". I looked at the transfer case and noticed what looks like a counterbalance. See attached picture, it's near the rear of the transfer case and its black.
When I got my truck back I looked and I do not have that counterbalance. There are threaded grooves for the bracket but I'm not sure if the 4a is supposed to have the balance. Can you guys with the 4a's check and see if you have it? Thanks in advance

Answered my own question if anyone cares. Kinda bizzare, checked new inventory and only the ecoboost engines have the counterbalance. All 5.0's lacked them
