Default Trans valve body - why replace??

Ok so my 5 year warranty is going to run out soon and was really struggling to find anything wrong before that date.. Overall, the truck has been great, trouble free.
The only thing I could recall, is the tranny downshifts are a little harsh. More noticeable in TOW or Sport mode. Otherwise the tranny shifts UP very smooth. . I figured it was more of an electronic thing so wasn't too concerned. The only thing they ever did was reset the learning program in the first year
I scheduled the dealer visit, and they now tell me it needs a valve body. 5-7 days to get part, do the repair and "hope" that fixes the downshifts.
Does that sound right?? I just hope they aren't doing lets try this first and then move on down the list.

Because of the part order, I'm going to pick up the truck and locally drive it instead of it sitting in their back lot. I mean it drove ok before.
Only other issue, we were planning a road trip (2200kms) and really wanted to take the truck. I have no issues driving it the way it is, unless it causes other damage.
What are your thoughts on the VB replacement?? And continuing to drive it.??
Appreciate any input.

Its under warranty let them go at it, you may end up with a new trans out of it! They will fix it because you started this complaint while under warranty--

I think its the second step of the tsb, 1st a tcm flash then the valve body and then cdf drum?Mine is being rebuilt right now, 5 days past the 5 year warranty. Luckily I have a 6 year esp. I'm sure my cdf drum is what failed but ford is rebuilding the valve body now... I just hope this fixes my truck. Mine would free rev up to 4500 rpm between 1st n 3rd and nuteral drop slamming in to gear hard enough to chirp my big heavy duratracs but only after a cold soak and on light acceleration. The trans temp has to be below 60C otherwise it's fine. After rocking my tires it would default to 4th gear and stay there even when stopped it would try to take off in 4th. I honestly wouldn't noticed since im rarely gentle with my truck but when but when "tip toeing" out the drive way at 3am trying not to wake my wife and neighbors it would happen. My dealer appointment was a week later and i kept driving er and it got worse and worse. Idk why or how but it started at 73 000 km. I'll report back once my truck is returned(18 5.0 10speed).

Tsb 22-2428, I ended up having a P0733 code that never threw any check engine lights. The dealer opened the trans up to rebuild the valve body and saw the cdf drum bushing pushed back into the trans destroying the seal behind it. Ive only had the truck back for day but all seems well so far. Before the tsb I could make my truck do it every time the trans temp was below 60C and now It won't do it at all, I just hope it stays this way!

My dealer did the new TCM flash and reset the adaptive learning and so far around 1000 miles later it's still shifting great. No more weird harsh downshifts or delayed upshifts.
